Sony has been planning a Kraven the Hunter movie for a very long time. At one point the movie was going to feature both Kraven and Mysterio, but as we all know Mysterio went on to be the main villain in Spider-Man: Far From Home. There are also some Kraven Easter Eggs in the background of Morbius that were spotted during filming, but we don’t know if those will make it into the final film or not.
Now Deadline reports that J.C. Chandor has been hired to direct the Kraven movie.
Of course, fans are wondering how you can do Kraven without Spider-Man, but they’ve so easily forgotten how Marvel Studios and Sony have a new agreement after their public custody battle last August. When that ended, Kevin Feige confirmed that Spider-Man would be able to jump across to Sony’s universe:
“He [Spider-Man] also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold.”
And yes, that means Tom Holland. He’s Sony and Marvel’s Spider-Man. Both studios love him, so they wouldn’t do something as stupid as trying to cast another live-action Spider-Man while he still owns the role. Feige’s quote means that Spider-Man is able to show up in Sony’s universe of spin-offs, meaning that they will be able to do a Kraven the Hunter movie where he’s hunting the Spider.
