Hot on the heels of the news that Sony has dated an untitled Sony/Marvel news for October 2021 comes a report that Sony is working on a solo film that could just fit into that release date.
According to Daniel Richtman, Sony is planning on a Spider-Woman solo film. He also believes it could be the October 2021 movie:
Two months ago I heard they are developing a Spider-Woman movie so it’s likely that one that is set for next year. Maybe— Daniel Richtman (@DanielRPK) February 11, 2020
This is just the latest in a long-line of Spider-Verse movies Sony has been said to be planning including Madame Web, Silver Sable, Black Cat, and now Spider-Woman. Although with the successes of movies like Captain Marvel and Wonder Woman; Sony probably wants their own female superhero and Jessica Drew would give them that.
The character is actually shared between Marvel and Sony where Marvel can use Jessica Drew in the MCU as a secret agent, but they cannot use the Spider-Woman name, any spider powers, or the Spider-Woman suit. On the other hand, Sony is free to use Spider-Woman as most people know her.
If Sony is doing a Spider-Woman movie in their SUMC, it could eliminate her from showing up in the MCU down the line. Sorry Secret Invasion fans.
