The Black Widow ‘Special Look’ Disproves a Fan Theory About Taskmaster’s Identity

Ever since Marvel didn’t outright confirm who is playing Taskmaster in Black Widow, a lot of crazy fan theories have popped up about who is really under the mask. Much like the stupid “Luke Skywalker is really Kylo Ren” theory that went on in the lead up to the release of The Force Awakens, people are ignoring who in the cast is actually playing Taskmaster for their own theories that they’ll quickly forget about on May 1st.

Even though it’s been confirmed that Rachel Weisz is playing Melina Vostokoff, otherwise known as Iron Maiden in the comics, there’s an on-going theory that she’s really Taskmaster. Well, the Special Look disproves that theory as we see her in a fight saving Red Guardian from him.

We’ve all seen this scene in the other trailer where Red Guardian is seen fighting Taskmaster:

The new “Special Look” shows a later part of that same scene. It looks like Tasky got the best of Alexi, as he’s lying on the ground and Melina is saving him:

The reason why Marvel isn’t revealing who is really playing Task is likely to preserve a surprise in the movie based on one of the new characters being introduced, who you haven’t seen in any trailer yet.

O-T Fagbenle is playing a character named Rick Mason, and we haven’t seen him in any official footage or stills yet. He’s described as an ally from Nat’s S.H.I.E.L.D. past who is romantically invested in her. Him being Taskmaster and the villain would be a twist Marvel would want to preserve, but of course people on the internet demand stuff like that be spoiled for them and then cry about spoilers when it is.
