Even though some people on the internet still refuse to believe it, Tom Holland was the person who saved the Spider-Man deal between Disney and Sony. Bob Iger himself confirmed it happened, but now we have the juicy details from Holland himself about how it all went down.
We know the story of how he asked for Iger’s information at D23 Expo, and on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Holland explained that he emailed Iger who responded immediately. Then things got funny.
Holland was on vacation in a pub with his family when Iger called…
So, two, three days go by and then my family and I went to the pub quiz in our local town. We’re doing a quiz. I’m three pints in, right? Haven’t eaten much, and I get a phone call from an unknown number and I have a feeling. ‘I think this is Bob Iger but I’m drunk.’”
Holland said that he wept to Iger, maybe partially due to being drunk and partially due to losing Spider-Man, and that’s what started the two companies on the path to working things out. Of course we know they did and eventually announced a MCU Spider-Man 3 for release in 2021.
The Spider-Man story is at the end of his appearance in this video:
