Scarlett Johansson Says Natasha’s Death is Permanent

Following the release of Avengers: Endgame, many of the people who once complained that Marvel films had “no stakes” were not able to accept the universe-changing stakes in the movie because it affected their favorite characters. From Iron Man, to Cap, and Black Widow, some fans have hoped for a plot twist or retcon to resurrect the characters and invalidate the sacrifices made in Endgame.

With Black Widow coming out in May, there has been an increase in bogus rumors online about a Natasha resurrection in the MCU to bring her back. But that doesn’t appear to be happening as Scarlett Johansson was on the Tonight Show last night and Full Circle Cinema caught this quote from her about Black Widow’s death:

“People definitely don’t believe it and have tried to convince me that my character did not actually die. That maybe, my character existed in an alternate universe. But no, I think death is a pretty certain thing.”

That definitely doesn’t sound like she’s coming back, and it also goes well with her previous comment about the movie providing closure to Natasha’s story. All of the evidence is pointing to Black Widow being gone for good.
