After the cosmic flop of Dark Phoenix, which caused Disney’s third quarter earnings to be lower than expected, many are wondering what it means for the final Fox X-Men release; New Mutants. Well, a new report out doesn’t bode well for its future.
According to a new report from Variety, Disney isn’t expecting much from the movie:
“Disney is optimistic that handing Fox superhero properties such as “Fantastic Four” and “X-Men” to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige will improve the quality of these movies, but bumps must be smoothed over in that transition. The studio is unimpressed with “New Mutants,” an “X-Men” spinoff with a haunted-house vibe, and believes it has limited box office potential.”
If they’re already bracing themselves for its “limited box office potential”, that means they’re still looking at a theatrical release for it, as opposed to dumping it on streaming like so many people have rumored.
