It’s a tradition in Hollywood where the movie that was previously #1 in any box office ranking to congratulate the movie that passes it up. It began back with Jaws and Star Wars and has continued to this day. As Avengers: Endgame has officially passed Avatar, today that congratulation has arrived.
The official Avatar Twitter account posted a graphic from James Cameron:
For those unaware of the history of Cameron and the Avengers, he famously told IndieWire last year prior to the release of Avengers: Infinity War:
“I’m hoping we’ll start getting ‘Avenger’ fatigue here pretty soon. Not that I don’t love the movies. It’s just, come on guys, there are other stories to tell besides hyper-gonadal males without families doing death-defying things for two hours and wrecking cities in the process. It’s like, oy!”
Now, a little over a year after those comments and Avengers movie has toppled Avatar to become the highest grossing movie in history. I guess “Avengers Fatigue” is about as real as “Superhero Fatigue”.
