Last night, Marvel Studios revealed Phase 4 at San Diego Comic Con and people have been wondering if there were more movies in the phase beyond 2021. After all, the previous phases were more than two years; but it looks like this one will be short (but packed with content thanks to Disney+).
Kevin Feige confirmed to Collider that what they revealed last night was the full Phase 4, barring any unforeseen events:
“It is the complete Phase Four the way I announced the complete Phase Three five years ago—things can move, things can change as they did if you go back and look at what we talked about five years ago for Phase Three, but we’ve been working on this for quite a while and it’s pretty set. But there are always changes possible.”
That means right now, November 2021’s Thor: Love and Thunder is the end of Phase 4.
Obviously those possible changes include Sony Pictures announcing a third Spider-Man movie, as that’s their film to announce and it wouldn’t be included in a Disney presentation. If they stick to their every-two-year release schedule for Spider-Man, that could be in July of 2021. And there could be other changes like we saw in Phase 3 with movies changing dates and others taking their place.
Disney has three MCU movies slated for 2022 in February, May, and July. Whatever those movies are they will be part of Phase 5. Guardians 3, Black Panther 2, Captain Marvel 2, Blade, and Fantastic Four could fill any of those slots. And of course the Mutants are still coming down the line as well.
D23 Expo is next month and Marvel has a small presentation there (part of a larger panel), so we may hear some more cool things soon…
