For months, writers from many large comic book sites have been trying to spread around false hopes of Fox characters popping up in Avengers: Endgame, or some kind of post credit scene. Even though most people realize that wouldn’t be possible due to the rights issues and how Marvel couldn’t use the characters until the Fox deal closed, that didn’t stop some writers from even some of the largest sites from privately spreading bogus rumors of the Dark Phoenix cast being filmed in Endgame “just in case” the deal closed early.
Of course, none of that was true and today Joe Russo confirmed to ComicBook.com that it would never have been possible to film any of the characters in the first place:
“That deal didn’t actually officially close until a week and a half ago. It would not have been logistically possible.”
Of course people on the Internet are still refusing to believe this, since they’ve spent months dreaming of a post-credit scene where Doctor Doom shows up with Galactus and Silver Surfer fighting the X-Men. But that won’t be happening for a while. Kevin Feige explained this week that it’ll be “a very long time” until the X-Men show up, as the Fox characters aren’t part of the five-year Phase 4 plan they’re currently working through.
