With Phase 3 winding down with the release of Avengers: Endgame next month, the next phase of MCU movies is starting to ramp up. We have Black Widow and The Eternals going into production over the next few months, and now the movies that will follow those are beginning to get under way. We know who’s directing Black Panther 2 and Doctor Strange 2, and now Shang-Chi has a director.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Destin Daniel Cretton has been hired to direct Shang-Chi:
Destin Daniel Cretton will direct the feature. He is currently directing Just Mercy, which stars Brie Larson and Michael B. Jordan.
Other filmmakers who were in the running included Dear White People’s Justin Tipping, Alan Yang, who is behind the upcoming John Cho movie Tigertail, and Deborah Chow, whose credits include episodes of Reign, Jessica Jones and the upcoming Star Wars Disney+ series The Mandalorian.
With a director now attached, there’s a very good chance Shang-Chi will be one of the movies to officially receive a release date when Marvel unveils their new movies in Hall H at San Diego Comic Con in July.
