A lot of Marvel fans were surprised recently when Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was renewed for a seventh season before the sixth even premiered. Now comes word that the seventh season may be the end of the show.
The news comes from Clark Gregg, who told Den of Geek an end of the show at year seven is what he’s heard:
“That’s the word I’ve heard,” said Gregg when we spoke with him recently at the press junket for Captain Marvel. “The announcement I read was, two more seasons, six and seven.”
There are a lot of rumors flying around that Marvel Studios is completely taking over the TV-side of the MCU beginning with the Disney+ series. If that’s the case, then it’d make a lot of sense to wind down Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and then possibly spin the characters off into something Marvel Studios oversees so we could then get Daisy and Coulson on the big screen.
Seven seasons is actually a really good run for a show, that’s what all of the 90s Star Trek series did. So if Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. does end with its seventh year, I won’t be too upset to see it go; as long as the characters can live on in some other way.
