He’s said it before, but Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed again today that they would continue to make R-rated Marvel films after the Fox purchase and hinted at new ones as well.
Iger originally talked about this back in 2017 when they first announced the Fox purchase, hinting at a new R-rated Marvel brand, but today during the first quarter earnings call; he again confirmed that they will continue to make R-rated Marvel films and hinted that there would be “more” of it. Meaning there would be more R-rated Marvel movies beyond just Deadpool.
“We do believe there is room for the Fox properties to exist without significant Disney influence over the nature of the content. Meaning that we see that there is certainly popularity amongst Marvel fans for the R-rated Deadpool films, for instance we’re going to continue in that business, and there might be room for more of that.”
The “more” could be a reference to the rumor that the Black Widow movie would be the first R-rated film produced by Marvel Studios.
