It’s been known for a while that the Disney-Netflix deal ended at the close of 2018 and only movies released before the end of that year would show up on the streaming service, and today Disney confirmed their first movie to stream exclusively on Disney+.
On Disney’s first quarter earnings call today, they confirmed that Captain Marvel would be the first Disney movie to stream exclusively on Disney+; meaning that it would skip Netflix entirely. There’s no confirmation as to when it’ll debut on Disney+, but with the streaming service launching at the end of the year, it could potentially be there at launch.
Right now there’s no word on what’s going to happen with the existing Marvel movies currently streaming on Netflix, which includes everything from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 through Ant-Man and The Wasp and if they’ll eventually make their way off Netflix and onto Disney+.
