We’ve officially arrived in November, meaning this is when the Avengers 4 trailer will likely arrive before the end of the month. The Avengers: Infinity War teaser trailer was released on November 29, 2017 and if they follow a similar release schedule for Avengers 4; it’s likely we’ll be waiting a few weeks until we see it. But that doesn’t stop YouTube clickbaiters from spreading lies to get people hyped up for something that isn’t happening.
For example, one YouTube channel with 44K subs today ran a video claiming that the Avengers 4 IMAX trailer has gone through the DMR process, which is something that IMAX has officially denied. They also go on to claim the IMAX trailer has already been shipped to theaters for a premiere on November 21st. Obviously the hoaxer is trying to get people hyped up for Ralph Breaks the Internet, which will likely NOT include the trailer. Disney rarely puts live-action superhero movie trailers on their animated movies. Ralph is much more likely to feature a teaser trailer for Toy Story 4 than Avengers. This is similar to the recent hoax that claimed the trailer will be on Nutcracker this weekend (it’s not).
In the past, when movies were still shipped on film canisters, trailers would arrive separate and the projectionist would need to splice the reels together. But that went away when theaters moved to digital projection. Trailers aren’t always shipped separately. They sometimes arrive on the hard drive for whatever movie they’re playing with, even on IMAX. The hard drive has a label on it that lists what trailers are included with the movie. If the trailer isn’t included on the hard drive it’ll be on a disc or via an encrypted download for the theater. They don’t ship trailers far in advance, especially not at the beginning of the month so it can sit somewhere for twenty days and then leak.
The way this works now is Disney will debut the trailer online or via an outlet like Good Morning America or a football game. After the trailer debuts online or on TV, it’ll be shipped to theaters a couple weeks later with an appropriate movie. The Avengers: Infinity War teaser debuted at the end of November, and then it played in theaters in December with Star Wars: The Last Jedi. If they follow a similar schedule as Infinity War, the Avengers 4 trailer will debut online or on TV late this month and then play in theaters on something like Aquaman or Disney’s own Mary Poppins Returns.
So, be patient and be cautious of YouTubers and other places giving you false hope of an early trailer release. Realistically we’ll know within a week of its release when it’s actually going to hit. And all evidence right now is pointing towards the end of the month.
