Yesterday it came out that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has a production code name of “Hot Christmas”, meaning that things may be finally progressing on the movie again. They don’t assign a production code name to a movie that’s not going to film until 2021, meaning that rumor that’s been going around is likely false. For example, Black Panther 2 will film in about a year, and that movie doesn’t have a script yet. There’s no realistic reason for Guardians 3 to be pushed two years especially since it has a working title now.
If things are progressing again on Guardians, it’s likely they either found a new director or are very close to deciding on one, and today there’s a rumor about what direction they may be going in.
According to reliable scooper DanielRPK on Twitter, Marvel may be looking at a female director to replace James Gunn on the delayed movie:
There are several names they can choose from if they want to hire a female director for the movie, and if this is true I wouldn’t be shocked if were to hear a short list of names before the end of the year. There’s still a chance that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 could arrive in late 2020 if there’s progress being made on it…
