After shooting down the Internet’s hope of rehiring James Gunn, Disney CEO Bob Iger has commented on the future of the Fox-Marvel properties once the Disney-Fox merger completes sometime next year.
THR asked Iger about the future of the Fox-Marvel characters and if Feige would oversee them:
“I think it only makes sense. I want to be careful here because of what’s been communicated to the Fox folks, but I think they know. It only makes sense for Marvel to be supervised by one entity. There shouldn’t be two Marvels.”
Of course that led them to asking of Deadpool could join The Avengers, and he said:
“Kevin’s got a lot of ideas. I’m not suggesting that’s one of them. But who knows?”
Deadpool of course has been part of the Avengers in the comics, such as Uncanny Avengers, but there is a group of fans on the Internet who believed that due to his R-rating in the movies he wouldn’t be part of the MCU. Iger’s comments seem to kill that idea, with him saying there shouldn’t be two Marvels.
He’s also pretty easy to integrate into the MCU with his fourth-wall breaking. Deadpool 2 featured a lot of MCU jokes, and the first movie featured Hydra Bob (just called Bob in the movie because they couldn’t say Hydra) and the end of the film took place on a comic book version of a S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier. So it’s not too hard to slide Wade into the MCU how he exists already.
