Dave Bautista has been in the news a lot this weekend as he’s doing press in the UK for the release of his movie Final Score, and of course everyone knows by now how he went on the Jonathan Ross show and cast doubts of him returning to the role of Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
Now there’s a new interview with MTV International where he said he pushed for a solo Drax movie, even if he wouldn’t be the star of it. When talking about the backstory of Drax he said:
“I think it’s a beautiful story and I think it’s been lost and overlooked a little bit. It’s a beautiful and heartbreaking emotional thing to know where that love for his family and that heartbreak over his family being lost and murdered, where it comes from I think. I really pushed and fought for the Drax standalone film but I don’t think it’s ever going to happen. I really wish they would because I think there’s a story to be told there and I think the fans would really love to see that story, even if it’s not me portraying Drax, I just think it is an interesting story to tell.”
Personally if they did a Drax movie, I’d rather them reboot him in the MCU to be closer to the comic book version of the character, who’s a real badass and not a comic relief fool like he has been in the three appearances we’ve seen so far. But that probably wouldn’t happen, and if they don’t replace Bautista with someone else as Drax there are a lot of characters they could put in a Guardians movie to take his place.
