We finally have some Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 news that’s not directly related to James Gunn’s employment status, and it’s not great news to be honest.
According to a report in The Hollywood Reporter, production of the movie is being put on hold and those who were prepping it for pre-production are free to look for work elsewhere:
“The production of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is being put on hold for the time being as Marvel and Disney regroup on the project, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.
Sources say that crew members, at this stage a small group that was prepping for pre-production, are being dismissed and are free to look for new work.”
And although there never was an official release date for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, a source in the article says the timeline has been pushed out. That means the movie is likely delayed from the May 1, 2020 release date it was likely being targeted for.
If there’s any good news in the article, The Hollywood Reporter says that Taika Waititi did recently have a meeting with Marvel Studios, but they stress that they’re not sure if Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was discussed with him.
With the movie likely delayed, the focus will be on what movie may take that May 1, 2020 release date. Black Widow is probably the next MCU movie to go into production, and Doctor Strange 2 is also likely to start soon as well.
