What may be the final stop in the James Gunn roller coaster may have just happened. Fans pushing the #RehireJamesGunn hashtag will probably be disappointed, as it looks like there is a pretty final decision in the saga, and it’s one some people weren’t hoping for.
Tonight Variety chimes in with an exclusive that says James Gunn and his reps sat down with Alan Horn on Tuesday, and they are not going to rehire him:
“Gunn and his UTA reps pushed hard for him to be given a second chance, and Horn decided to take a courtesy meeting on Tuesday to clear the air and see if there was a possibility of Gunn returning to the franchise. Though the meeting was described as civil and professional, sources say that Horn stood by his decision to not reinstate Gunn as director.”
And they say Kevin Feige supports the decision to not bring back Gunn:
“Insiders say Marvel president Kevin Feige was out of town and unable to attend. Sources added that while it was rumored that Feige was pushing to bring Gunn back, Feige stands by the studio’s decision to not bring back the “Guardians” director for the third installment.”
The good news is Variety says sources have said that his script will be used for the movie. Until there is news of who the new director will be, I think it’s best to take Star-Lord’s advice and to move forward from this drama for the time being.
