Something Marvel fans had to endure from other fandoms over the last two months was a false narrative that Ant-Man and The Wasp “bombed” because it didn’t make the same amount of money as Avengers: Infinity War…despite Marvel never expecting it to. The same people who thought it was fine for a Superman movie to not break $700 million world wide were suddenly very concerned about an Ant-Man movie not doing that.
While Ant-Man and The Wasp has already passed by 2015’s original Ant-Man at the domestic box office, it’s been slower internationally due to the staggered international release schedule. It didn’t arrive in the UK and parts of Europe until a month after the domestic release, and it hasn’t been released in China or Japan yet.
Marvel movies are extremely popular in China, and the release of Ant-Man and The Wasp there should put it above the international total for the original movie:
China Box Office Tracking: Ant-Man and the Wasp is very strong in advance ticket sale like what Black Panther & Spider-Man: Homecoming did at the same point. It would be very likely that the 20th MCU film will open with $60M in China. #AntManAndTheWasp pic.twitter.com/cIreyGi5vP

Right now Ant-Man and The Wasp is only about $70 million below the international total of the first Ant-Man. China all by itself will probably put it well above the total even before taking into account Japan, which will be the final country to see the movie at the end of the month.
