Infinity War’s Dusting Effect Almost Looked Very Different

No one will forget the ending to Avengers: Infinity War, but the signature visual effect at the end of the movie almost looked very different.

Inverse has an interview with Avengers: Infinity War VFX supervisor Dan DeLeeuw where he discusses how the effect came to be, and originally it was going to combine the effects of all of the stones before they settled on just having the Power Stone turn them to ash:

“We had concept art combining all those things, and it was getting too busy,” he says. “It became too complicated. It was stepping on what the actors were doing. So it became ‘body turns to ash.’ We peeled away all those layers and focused on that one [Power Stone], deciding how quickly it would consume someone, what pattern it would consume them.”

In the original Infinity Gauntlet comic, the people affected by the snap just faded away to nothing in front of everyone. The movie’s version of them blowing away in ash is certainly more memorable…and traumatizing.
