Yesterday I posted an update detailing the different options that are rumored to be on the table in regards to the future of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. I really suggest you take a look at it, as today’s update builds upon those options they are apparently considering for the show’s future. Today I have a very small update that shows how things are currently in the show’s favor to come back in some form.
The first is that apparently Marvel really wants the show to be on the air next March, long before the Disney streaming service is due to launch in fall 2019. It’s not something they really want to wait for as they see a very unique opportunity with Coulson being on both a television show and major Marvel film at the same time. That’s not something that happens often and it’s a valuable promotional tool for both the show and the movies.
Those people who refuse to believe that the show is part of the MCU need to start to understand that, as the fifth season wouldn’t have even happened if Disney didn’t step in as the show is seen as a weekly commercial for the overall Marvel Cinematic Universe. With Captain Marvel coming in March, that’s never been more true, which is why Marvel really wants to find a way to keep the show alive in one way or another.
And that’s another thing about this. I’ve heard that they are very dedicated to getting this resolved as soon as possible, and there are people working through this weekend to get it all worked out. The clock’s ticking on multiple fronts, and they want to be able to tell the cast and crew what’s going to happen.
There are cast members who are frustrated with the lack of news (some of which are publicly expressing such frustration in disguised ways) as these people need to work, and if they want a job in the fall this is when they’ll need to get that sort of thing booked. They can’t do that with the fate of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. up in the air, so people are working very hard to get an answer as to whether or not we’ll see the show again regardless of the format it’ll take or the outlet you’ll see it on.
Hopefully we’ll have an answer either this week or the week after…
