This news isn’t really surprising to most people, but it’s nice to have actual confirmation. Still, there are people out there confused and even now you’ll see people theorizing that somehow Adam Warlock will appear in Infinity War and be connected to the Soul Stone. Yesterday came real confirmation that in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Adam Warlock will not be connected to the Soul Stone and the events that take place surrounding the Infinity Gauntlet and Infinity War.
The confirmation came from James Gunn who responded to someone on Twitter who said he was “99% sure” that Adam Warlock had the Soul Stone, and Gunn replied saying the guy was 99% incorrect:
You would be 99% incorrect then. Sorry!

We’ve known for a long time that Adam Warlock wouldn’t be involved with either Avengers sequel, as Gunn said last year he “was definitely not” in either movie:
11 I awoke with a vision of the Stakar Ravagers scene in my head and couldn’t stop thinking about it for days. We almost didn’t include the Adam Warlock scene because he was definitely not in Avengers 3 or 4 and we had no plans for him in general.

The MCU movies commonly adapt big comic story lines, but adjust elements to match the movies. Civil War is a great example, as the comic and movie stories are very different but retain similar themes. Likewise with Infinity War we’re already seeing roles from Infinity Gauntlet being filled with MCU characters. In the comics, it was Silver Surfer who crashed through the Sanctum’s roof. In the movie, it’s Bruce Banner.
If they are adapting Infinity Gauntlet with a big inspiration from Hickman’s Infinity, it’s likely we’ll see a different character taking on a similar role to Adam Warlock in the story. Personally, I believe that Captain Marvel in Avengers 4 will be the replacement for both Adam and Silver Surfer in the story. Can Carol fly at the speed of light? We’ll just have to wait and see.
